Domestic Violence Housing Initiative

Journey Center’s Domestic Violence Housing Initiative (DVHI) provides short-term emergency housing assistance for individuals or families fleeing domestic violence.

Journey Center’s Domestic Violence Housing Initiative (DVHI) provides short-term emergency housing assistance for individuals or families fleeing domestic violence. Journey’s Domestic Violence Housing Initiative will quickly connect domestic violence victims to stable housing, regardless of whether or not they come into Shelter.

Gaining self-sufficiency away from an abuser has tremendous ripple effects throughout the survivor’s family and community.

  • Children are no longer exposed to abuse

  • Survivors are less likely to lose their job

  • The health, homeless, and child welfare systems may be used less

  • The generational cycle of violence and poverty is more likely to end

This one-session virtual class will cover:

  • How to obtain affordable rental housing in today’s rental market

  • Concepts associated with leasing

  • Responsibilities of tenants and property owners for property maintenance

  • Steps to take to have the best rental experience

Information for Individuals Seeking DVHI Assistance

If you are currently fleeing from a domestic violence incident or would like to complete a screening, reach out to our 24-Hour Helpline:
216.391.4357 (HELP).

If you qualify, an Intake Specialist will reach out to you by phone for more information and to complete your intake.

Journey Center for Safety and Healing provides Rapid Rehousing to provide safe housing to those fleeing domestic violence. Journey Center is here to assist you by sending available units via email, providing domestic violence education, and identifying a safety plan that works for you.

Information about RRH and DVHI

  • Journey Center offers two rapid rehousing programs under the Domestic Violence Housing Initiative: Journey Home Rapid Rehousing, operated by Journey Center; and Eden Inc DV Rapid Rehousing, operated by EDEN INC.

  • Both programs offer housing location assistance and up to 12-month rental assistance plus security deposit. Housing case management is provided for the entirety of the lease agreement.

  • Call Journey Center’s 24-Hour Helpline: 216.391.4357 (HELP) to talk with an Advocate.

  • Rapid Rehousing is also available by entering emergency shelter. Most individuals and families that enter shelter in Cuyahoga County have access to EDEN Rapid Rehousing, as long as they have not received EDEN RRH in the last 2 years.

  • Coordinated Intake will help you enter shelter in Cuyahoga County.

    • Call: 216-674-6700

    • Hours of operation: 8:00a – 8:00p, Monday – Friday.

    • After hours and weekends: call United Way 2-1-1 for an on-call Coordinated Intake representative
